OBAMA PLANNING TO SUE SHERIFF JOE FOR ENFORCING THE LAW

The Obama administration said yesterday that it was preparing to sue Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his department for racial-profiling violating civil rights laws by improperly targeting Latinos when enforcing immigration law. Obama’s Justice Department claims that officers made unlawful stops and arrests of Latinos, used excessive force against them and failed to adequately protect the Hispanic community in Maricopa County.

Sheriff Joe and his department have firmly stood their ground against the Obama administration’s barrage of attacks that coincidentally (or not) escalated when America’s toughest sheriff announced his plans to open the first-ever criminal investigation of Barack Obama’s eligibility to appear on this fall’s presidential ballots.

TEXAS STATE REP. WANTS MEXICO TO REIMBURSE U.S. TAXPAYERS

Texas State Rep. Lyle Larson wrote in a March 21 letter that his state spends anywhere from $6 billion to $8 billion a year on health care and other costs for illegal immigrants – and he wants Mexican President Felipe Calderon to pay for it. Larson filed a bill during the 2011 legislative session that would have required state agencies and organizations to track the services they provide immigrants (and the expenses incurred) in order to figure out the illegal immigration problem from an “economic viewpoint.”

Amnesty advocates argue that illegal immigrants pay property and sales taxes – one study even suggested they pay more in state taxes than they cost the state in services even though actual costs are hard to pinpoint. At the local level, a study by the Texas Comptroller found that illegal immigrants pay more than $513 million in taxes but cost hospitals $1.3 billion in uncompensated health care and $141.9 million for incarceration, not to mention the cost for other services. The Pew Hispanic Center estimates that 1.65 million illegal immigrants live in Texas.
